About the Sacramento Weekend Drivers
The Sacramento Weekend Drivers Golf Club (SWD) is affiliated with the Northern California Golf Association as an Associate Club. SWD has been a co-ed club since its inception and welcomes beginning golfers as well as single-digit players. In the last two years, the club has also begun accepting Junior members. The Club is a not-for-profit organization and was formed to promote and foster a spirit of acceptance, comraderie, fun, competition, and respect for all members.


History
The Sacramento Weekend Drivers Golf Club was formed in 1990 by a group of eight individuals. The original intent of the club was to encourage and promote the game of golf and these eight individuals became the permanent Executive Board.

The club's membership has varied through the years with an average membership of approximately 120 members. Because there were so many first-time golfers in the early years, the club established a number of rules that were more lenient to provide enjoyment for the beginning golfers while they become more skilled. Now, the club abides by the USGA Rules of Golf.

Being an Associate Club, the SWD do not have a "home" course, but schedule tournaments throughout the Sacramento region. Early and late season tournaments are scheduled nearer to Sacramento in the event of inclimate weather, while mid-season tournaments explore the more distant courses in the region. There is an annual "out-of-town" tournament scheduled each year that takes the club to one of several locations, including the Reno-Tahoe area, the Monterey-Santa Cruz area, and the Central Valley of California.


Future Goals
The club's future goals remain focused upon providing the membership with a great golfing and social experience. Through the scheduling of interesting golf venues, a variety of individual and team tournament formats, and combining them with social events such as our annual picnic and Christmas Party/Awards Banquet, the club hopes to foster a sense of belonging, comraderie, and a thorough enjoyment of the game of golf.
